Presentada por primera vez en 1998 y aún vigente como una serie Mac, la iMac es la línea Mac más longeva de Apple. Fue diseñada como una Mac todo en uno asequible para el mercado de consumo y ha mantenido su enfoque en este segmento, aunque el hardware en sí ha evolucionado varias veces a lo largo de las décadas. 

Entre los primeros modelos, el iMac G3 original (1998-2002) utiliza procesadores PowerPC, una carcasa translúcida con diseño de "goma" y pantallas CRT de 15"; el iMac G4 (2002-2004) utiliza procesadores PowerPC, una carcasa blanca de media esfera y una pantalla plana montada en un brazo de acero cromado; y el iMac G5 (2004-2006) utiliza procesadores PowerPC y una carcasa blanca de policarbonato con un diseño de "losa" en el interior del ordenador integrado con una pantalla plana.

Los modelos más recientes de iMac Intel (2006-2022) utilizan procesadores Intel, pantallas planas y carcasas todo en uno de policarbonato blanco o aluminio plateado, y los modelos más recientes de iMac con Apple Silicon (2021-Actualidad) utilizan procesadores Apple Silicon, pantallas planas y carcasas de aluminio, en su mayoría coloridas.

iMac 2007

Apple iMac Intel Aluminum “Core 2 Duo” computer released August 2007.

It also had a faster processor under the body, the Intel “Core 2 Duo” processor, 

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with graphics acceleration for graphics. 

Ports: The FireWire ports were still limited to 2 ports however, the second FireWire “400” port was upgraded to a FireWire “800” port.

iMac 2009

The iMac "Core i7" 2.8 27-Inch Aluminum (Late 2009) is powered by a 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel "Core i7" I7-860 (Lynnfield/Nehalem) processor with a dedicated 256k level 2 cache for each core and an 8 MB shared level 3 cache.

Memory: By default, it is configured with 4 GB of RAM (1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM)

DISK: 1 TB (7200 RPM) hard drive, a vertically-mounted slot-loading DVD±R DL "SuperDrive", 

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512 MB of dedicated GDDR3 memory.

iMac 2012

The iMac "Core i5" 2.7 21.5-Inch Aluminum (Late 2012) features a 22 nm Quad Core 2.7 GHz Intel "Core i5" I5-3330S (Ivy Bridge) processor with four independent processor cores on a single chip, a 6 MB shared level 3 cache, 

Memory: 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM 

Disk: 1 TB (5400 RPM) hard drive, 

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics processor with 512 MB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. 

It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.

iMac 2014

Processor: The iMac "Core i5" 1.4 21.5-Inch Aluminum (Mid-2014/Haswell) features a 22-nm "Haswell" 1.4 GHz Intel "Core i5" processor (4260U) with two independent processor "cores" on a single chip, a 3 MB shared level 3 cache

Memory: 8 GB of onboard 1600 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (which cannot be upgraded later)

Disk: a 500 GB (5400 RPM) hard drive

Graphics: an "integrated" Intel HD Graphics 5000 graphics processor that shares system memory. It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.
 

iMac 2016

Processor: The iMac "Core i5" 3.3 27-Inch Aluminum (Retina 5K, Late 2015/Skylake) features a 14-nm "Skylake" Quad Core 3.3 GHz Intel "Core i5" processor (6600) with four independent processor "cores" on a single chip

Memory: a 6 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of 1867 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (PC3-14900) installed in pairs (two 4 GB modules)

Disk: 2 TB "Fusion Drive

Graphics: an AMD Radeon R9 M395 graphics processor with 2 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.

iMac 2017

Processor: The iMac "Core i7" 4.2 27-Inch Aluminum (Retina 5K, Mid-2017/Kaby Lake) features a 14-nm "Kaby Lake" 4.2 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (7700K) with four independent processor "cores" on a single chip

Memory: an 8 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of easy to upgrade 2400 MHz DDR4 SDRAM

Disk: a 1 TB or 2 TB Hard Drive+SSD "Fusion" drive

Graphics: either a Radeon Pro 575 graphics processor with 4 GB of VRAM or a Radeon Pro 580 graphics processor with 8 GB of VRAM. It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.

iMac 2018

Processos: The iMac "Core i5" 3.0 21.5-Inch Aluminum (Retina 4K, 2019/Coffee Lake) features a 14-nm "Coffee Lake" 3.0 GHz Intel "Core i5" processor (I5-8500) with six independent processor "cores" on a single chip

Memory: a 9 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 SDRAM that is reportedly "built into the computer".

Disk: a 1 TB Fusion Drive (256 GB SSD standard with the 1 TB "Fusion" Drive, which combines a 32 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD, for the same price as a configure-to-order option.

Graphics: Radeon Pro 560X graphics processor with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory. It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.

iMac 2019

Processor: The iMac "Core i9" 3.6 27-Inch Aluminum (Retina 5K, Early 2019) features a 14-nm "9th Generation" 3.6 GHz Intel "Core i9" processor (I9-9900K) with eight independent processor "cores" on a single chip, a shared 16 MB level 3 cache

Memory: 8 GB of easy to upgrade 2666 MHz DDR4 SDRAM

Disk: a 1 TB or 2 TB Fusion Drive

Graphics: a Radeon Pro 575X or Radeon Pro 580X graphics processor with 4 GB or 8 GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory. It also has a built-in "FaceTime HD" webcam and stereo speakers.

Memory: 8 GB of easy to upgrade 2666 MHz DDR4 SDRAM

Disk: a 512 GB onboard default SSD 

Graphics: a Radeon Pro 5300 graphics processor with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR6 video memory or a Radeon Pro 5500 XT graphics processor with 8 GB of dedicated GDDR6 video memory. It also has a built-in 1080p "FaceTime HD" webcam, a studio-quality three-mic array, and stereo speakers.

iMac 2021

Processor: The iMac "M1" 8-Core CPU/8-Core GPU/4 USB-C Shaped Ports (2021) model features a 5-nm 3.2 GHz Apple M1 processor with 8 cores (4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), an 8-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, 

Memory: 8 GB of onboard RAM,

Disk: a 256 GB or 512 GB onboard SSD. Both the RAM and the SSD could be upgraded at the time of initial system purchase, but not subsequently.

Memory: 16 GB or 24 GB of onboard "unified" RAM, 

Disk: a 256 GB or 512 GB onboard SSD. Both the RAM and the SSD can be custom configured at the time of initial system purchase, but not upgraded subsequently.
